Youth governor learning the ropes of good leadership
The Athens High School junior know what a good leader would do. Earlier this month, his basketball team desirable him for a game. But as a candidate for adolescence governor through Michigan Youth in Government, he also had to be in Lansing. While advisers told him he should go to the caucus, Swank, a four-sport athlete and class president, knew the game was evenly essential.
"What type of leader would I be if I let my team down?" said Swank, who made it to both events. Swank this month was selected youth governor through the YMCA-run Youth in Government program, beating out two other candidates. A second youth governor is expected to be elected next month. After attending district youth government conference, students across Michigan go to Lansing for a mock government, in which they discuss and pass bills.
