Transitions are a constant in life. As a professional speaker, I’ve always thrived on the energy of the stage—the applause, the standing ovations, and the heartfelt hugs from my audience. However, this past year has taught me that there’s more to life than the spotlight. I’ve become a big fan of getting an IV drip of good things once a month to help my body recover from the toll of performing, as my adrenals often feel depleted. This monthly ritual has become essential for my well-being, helping me bounce back faster and reclaim my energy.
What Are Transitions?
Transitions are significant changes in our lives. They can be planned, like starting a new job or moving to a new city, or unexpected, like a health issue or job loss. While many of us resist change, transitions offer a chance to grow and discover new possibilities.
Mentally, I faced some tough challenges, especially as I grappled with understanding who I am when I’m not on stage. For a long time, I had too much of my ego wrapped up in being a performer. The payoffs are undeniably enticing: a comfortable wage, traveling to beautiful places, and the joy of knowing my words resonate with people. Yet, it was time to step back and reflect.
The Phases of Transitions

Transitions don’t happen all at once. They come in phases: The End, The Messy Middle, and New Beginnings. Each phase is important, even though it can be hard to navigate.
With the support of my amazing therapist, Maria, I’ve started to rebuild myself from the inside out. I’ve committed to consistent movement—walking, hiking, and simply being active. It has also been a transformative experience watching my grandson over the past few months. Our relationship is a source of joy, though I admit, it’s also been exhausting!
In addition to family time, I’ve volunteered at a community farm, harvesting vegetables for local service groups that feed those in need. We affectionately call it “Dirt Therapy.” There’s something incredibly grounding about getting my hands in the soil, connecting with the earth, and knowing that my efforts are making a difference.
Lately, I feel like I’m turning a corner. Instead of being terrified of what comes next, I’m open to new possibilities. I’ve come to embrace the phrases of transitions.
Strategies for Embracing Transitions
If you’re going through a transition, here are a few strategies I’ve found helpful:
- Shift Your Mindset: Instead of fearing change, try to see it as an opportunity to grow.
- Trying New Things: Step outside your comfort zone and explore new experiences to break patterns and foster growth.
- Set Clear Goals: Break down your transition into smaller steps so it feels more manageable.
- Nourish Your Body: Prioritize nourishing your body with healthy foods and regular IV drips to support recovery and overall well-being.
- Develop Healthy Habits: Exercise, meditate, or journal to reduce stress during transitions. Engage in consistent physical activity, such as walking and hiking, to clear your mind and boost your spirits.
- Seek Support: Talk to friends, family, or a therapist. Support can help you stay grounded.
- Stay Flexible: Life doesn’t always go as planned. Being adaptable helps you handle unexpected obstacles.
The Power of Transitions
At the end of the day, embracing transitions is about trusting that change can lead to new, exciting opportunities. The more I’ve embraced change, the more I’ve seen how it can bring growth and fulfillment. Life doesn’t always go as we expect, but the journey is worth it when we open ourselves up to new possibilities.
As I continue on this journey of transition, I’m excited to see what comes next. And I hope you’ll join me in embracing your own transitions. Together, we can navigate the challenges and celebrate the opportunities that come with them. And don’t worry, I’ll bring snacks along for the ride.
Embrace Your Transitions
Transitions are a natural part of life. Whether it’s a career change, a personal reinvention, or an unexpected shift, embracing transitions with a positive mindset can help you navigate change with confidence. Life is full of transitions, but by viewing them as opportunities to grow, you can make the most of each one. So, take a deep breath and embrace the journey ahead.
