September Is the Real New Year (Especially for the Wild Ones)

Forget January. By the time we drag ourselves through Christmas cookies, champagne toasts, and leftover turkey sandwiches, who’s got the energy to reinvent anything?

September, on the other hand, is buzzing with fresh-start energy. It smells like sharpened pencils and new shoes. Even if you haven’t cracked open a school locker in decades, there’s something about September that whispers: this is your time to reboot.

And if you’re hell-bent on Aging Wildly (instead of quietly fading into beige cardigans), September is the perfect season to reinvent, re-inspire, and re-energize.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Know Your Why

Reinvention for the sake of reinvention is just exhausting. Reinvention with purpose? That’s rocket fuel. Ask yourself: What’s lighting me up right now? Start there. And fan the flames to see if it sticks.

2. Know Your Values

Draw some non-negotiable lines in the sand. If you value freedom, stop saying yes to soul-sucking commitments. If you value connection, prioritize people who leave you buzzing, not drained. (And yes, I have a clarity survey that can help you sort this out — click here if you need it.)

3. Create a Persona and Play the Part

Want to be the fun, adventurous woman who says YES more? Start practicing. Say yes when your friends invite you to karaoke, even if every cell in your body screams “stay home with Netflix.” (Spoiler: Netflix will still be there when you get back.)

4. Think Holistically

It’s not just about what you wear or say in the big moments. Reinvention shows up in your emails, your Instagram posts, and how you treat the cashier at the grocery store. If you want “edgy, creative, and alive” — ditch the dusty suits and let that vibe ripple everywhere.

5. Get Comfortable With Discomfort

Here’s the deal: reinvention feels awkward. That’s normal. It’s the Messy Middle of all transitions. Think of Linus from the Peanuts cartoon when his security blanket is in the dryer. He’s lost, twitchy, and nothing feels right. That’s what change is supposed to feel like. Lean in. (Trust me it’s worth it.)

6. Keep Adapting

You don’t need to nail it on day one. Think of yourself like a new iPhone release: a little glitchy, not fully polished, but still fresh, shiny, and absolutely worth showing up for. (So your feet will hurt, who cares)

7. Do It Wildly

This isn’t about shrinking yourself to fit in. It’s about expanding into the fullest, boldest version of you. Reinventing wildly. Reinventing loudly. Reinventing in ways that make people say: She’s really doing it, isn’t she?

So here we are: September. The real New Year.

What’s one small, wild, slightly scary thing you’re willing to try this month?
Say yes to it. Go do it. And then tell me how it went — messy middle and all.

Because reinvention isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about finally giving yourself permission to be exactly who you are — only louder. Follow along as I write my next book, chapter by chapter. “Aging Wildly in a World that wants you to Calm the F*#K Down” to be released in 2026
